GIO4X Labs · Experiment
Nine set pieces, each a picture of one idea. They are metaphors and say so: no price is shown and nothing is forecast.
The floor at night
A dark room of lit screens. Each is a door into one part of the site.
Everything on the siteSix screens, six sections. Move the pointer to look round the room; each screen is a link.
Order in flight
Five gates between the ticket and a live position, passed in the order they happen.
Trade AnatomyPress the button and travel with the order.
General mechanics, in the order they happen. Not a description of how any one broker handles an order.
The spread canyon
Walk the day between them. The canyon is narrow when the market is full and wide in the quiet hours.
Spread visualiserA narrow pass: the market is full and the two prices stand close. The walls ahead are the hours to come.
The width follows how many of the four FX windows are open, on a weekday. It is a tendency: a release can widen a spread at the busiest hour too.
The storm chart
A boat leaves its path behind it, and the path is the chart. Change the sea, and let a release strike.
Volatility, definedCalm: the path behind the boat is smooth. Low volatility.
A picture of volatility and of a gap. The line is the boat’s path, not a price.
Gravity wells
Support and resistance, pictured. Push the comet and see a level hold, then give way and change its role.
Lesson: support and resistanceThe comet is turned back as it nears each level. Push harder and wait.
Support and resistance, pictured. An idea from technical analysis about where orders have gathered before; it is not a law, and a level can give way at any time.
The city, in time-lapse
Each tower is a financial centre. Its windows light while its exchange is in session.
World Market ClockAt 08:00 UTC, none of the nine exchanges is in its regular session.
Regular weekday hours of each centre’s exchange, shifted by its city’s offset today. Weekends, holidays and early closes are not known to it.
The liquid chart
Support, as water: three shelves, each holding a pool until it gives way to the one below.
Support, definedA level holds for as long as it can take what arrives. When it is full it gives way, and the next level below takes the flow. More arriving means each gives way sooner.
A picture of support levels under selling. An idea, drawn: not a description of any market.
The candle garden
A row of candles that sway like plants. Raise the wind, then close the session and let night fall.
Volatility, definedThe same garden in a wind: the swings are wider, in both directions.
Invented candles. The wind is volatility: it is not a direction.
The paper trail
The order ticket folds itself into a paper plane and flies its route: checks, routing, fill.
Trade AnatomyA ticket waits to be sent.
General mechanics, in order. Not a description of how any one broker handles an order.
Trading foreign exchange on margin carries a high level of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to trade foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose.
