How it works: The committee meets on a published schedule, roughly every two months. The Governor reads its statement at a press conference, with the committee’s forecasts and the split of the vote, and the bank publishes a Monetary Policy Review twice a year. Its independence and its mandate are written into South Africa’s constitution; the inflation target it works to is set with the government.
